Ziele/Aims Our studies on the biology of parasitic nematodes are complemented by using the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans as an experimental system in which to study gene function
Inhalte/Content The student will be working in one of our main research areas:
- Environmental stress, thiol-based redox signaling, thiol-based redox gene regulation and redox homeostasis
- Regulation of translation and protein synthesis in Caenorhabditis elegans focussing on the 1+ translational frameshift of the antizyme
- The UFM1 cascade is a posttranslational modification system highly conserved in most multicellular organisms. UFM1 is implicated in various human diseases. We are utilizing C. elegans as a model system to understand the cellular functions of the UFM1 cascade.
Methoden/Methods The Department of Molecular Physiology has considerable expertise in physiological, biochemical and molecular parasitology. The group objectives are to discover and implement novel strategies to control infectious diseases caused by parasites.
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for producing and characterizing proteins and utilizes in vitro and in vivo experimental models, along with molecular biology, genomics/proteomics and imaging techniques.
