Ziele/Aims During a preparatory seminar and an excursion of 2-3 weeks abroad, the students obtain knowledge on wildlife behaviour, ecology, natural history, and conservation of a selected region – in 2025 this will be South Africa. They can identify representative vertebrate taxa of the region (mainly birds and mammals) and thus obtain species knowledge. Further, they obtain knowledge in observation and wildlife monitoring methods. During visits of selected field stations, they obtain knowledge on ongoing behavioural ecological studies in situ, their study species, aims, methodology and results.
Inhalte/Content This module will consist of a 2-day preparatory seminar on wildlife behaviour, ecology and conservation of South Africa. During a three-week excursion we will visit various national parks, reserves and research stations in western South Africa. We will use very simply accommodation. During the excursion we will obtain species knowledge (focus on birds and mammals) and on observation and wildlife monitoring methods. At the research stations, we will meet local researchers and learn about their projects and long-term behavioural ecological research.
Methoden/Methods Observation and wildlife monitoring.
